The Princess Alice Disaster of 1878

Submarine Creative

A short piece documenting the final moments of the victims of the Princess Alice disaster of 1878

I love little projects like this.

Submarine Creative (Will Robinson) came to me to get help turning The Princess Alice Disaster of 1878, by Julia Fullerton-Batten into a living painting.

The plates had already been shot, but he wanted to animate the painted still frame background plate, to breathe more life into the project.

Supplied with a clean plate of the backdrop, I dissected the image in Photoshop, before bringing it back into After Effects where we created some subtle motion in the background late, to really sell that this was a living painting.

The actors were not shot on a green screen, but together we worked through the Roto to bring everything together.

Incredible work from Submarine Creative as usual, and a pleasure to get involved!
